Cocina de Coco Art is an art space that encourages creativity through cultural expression. The concept of a Cocina (kitchen) is considered by many cultures as a communal space that brings people together not just to share a meal, but to create lasting memories. Recipes, paintings, textiles, and design are just some of the ingredients that inspires us to be innovative. Visit our Etsy shop for available art prints and more!
ARTIST BIO

Welcome to Cocina de Coco Art! My name is Gerardo Mares, and I am an artist in the Milwaukee/Midwest region. I am a first-generation immigrant from Mexico, a first-generation college graduate and a proud member of the LGBT community. My artwork is rooted in expressing my cultural identity and I am often inspired by folk art, patterns, textiles and natural elements. I enjoy oil painting and exploring different art mediums. What I enjoy most is immersing in the creative process. From creating a simple sketch to researching an art topic and even traveling to a site, this process of portraying a vision is both inspiring and rewarding. Aside from my passion in art, my career background focuses on Criminology, Public Health, and Education. Throughout my personal and professional journey, art has been therapeutic and healing.
